Garden work in August
In August, the days are shorter, there is a mass ripening of berries and fruits. Immediately after the cherry ripe currants, gooseberries (medium and late varieties), early varieties of pears and apples.
Work continues on caring for plantations and pest and weed control. In case of dry weather, watering should be continued to ensure a uniform moistening of the soil to the depth of the roots. However, if you will abundantly water the apple trees immediately before harvesting, then the fall of the fruit may occur.
Under strong-yielding trees, the correct installation of the support should be checked. Gathering berries of raspberries, gooseberries and currants. If raspberry berries are infected with larvae of a raspberry beetle, they should be collected separately (the same applies to gooseberry infected with American powdery dew). The planting of strawberries continues.
Post-harvest care continues in the fruit-bearing areas of strawberries: removal of mustaches, weeding weeds, fertilization in the soil, watering, mulching with humus, peat or manure.
If in July did not have time to spend the ocularization, then spend it in August. Unappreciated eyes are re-eyed. After 16-18 days after the oculation, the bandage can be weakened, and in a month - completely removed. This is done so that the eyes are hardened.
A timely collection of the carrion is made. If the fallen fruit is sufficiently mature, then they can be allowed to be processed (boiling of jam, drying, etc.).
In August, hunters and sticky belts are harvested from trees and the pests in them are destroyed. The masonry of the gypsy moth and other butterflies is destroyed.
Against aphids, caterpillars, butterflies, larvae of sawflies and other garden pests, as necessary, non-arthritic trees, bushes of gooseberries and currants (after harvesting) should be sprinkled with tobacco infusion or carbophos. Supports, freed after harvesting, should be immediately stored.
Before planting fruit trees and berry bushes, make a plan for placing the plants on the site. Prepare the soil, purchase the planting material and dig the planting pits.
Approximately in mid-August, autumn varieties of fruiting apple trees (crowns) should be sprinkled with KANU solution. This is done in order to reduce pre-harvest fall of apples.
Strengthen the struggle against aphids, try to do this before they make a laying of winter eggs. It is easier to destroy the aphids themselves than their clutch of eggs.
It is already necessary to begin preparation of container for storage of a crop of apples and pears (autumn and winter grades).
